Little Explorers Camp - Where The Camp Adventure Begins

North Shore Country Day Summer Programs have been offering a half-day camp program for the youngest of campers –Little Explorers Camp for over 15 years.  This camp program gives our youngest campers a sampling of “big kids” camp.  The Little Explorers Camp gives the youngest camper the opportunity to make friends, learn new skills, have adventures, and get some exercise. It gets them outdoors and encourages active play.  All the reasons stated above apply to our 3-5 year-old campers.  While this age might sound too young, there are some pros to consider, especially if your child will be entering preschool or kindergarten in the fall.

The Little Explorers Camp is a great "practice run" for children who don't have a lot of experience being away from home.   It gives our young campers a chance to be independent (all the while being cared for closely by well-trained staff). The Little Explorers Camp is also a wonderful opportunity to introduce children to a whole new group of friends. Young children’s social circles may be limited and summer camp is an opportunity to expand their base of friends. It allows children to practice making friends and interact with other children from diverse backgrounds. It also gives children the freedom to make friends on their own.

Camp can provide structure for the youngest of camper.  In our Little Explorers Camp children are introduced to important concepts like following a schedule, learning group rules, taking responsibility for their belongings, and getting along with others in a group setting.  They participate in new activities and learn new skills.  Our Little Explorers campers have fun while practicing important skills like teamwork, coordination, self-confidence and learning and following rules.  They will learn more about the outdoors and have fun in a variety of structured play activities.

Staff

A 1:5 staff-to-camper ratio is maintained. Children will be under the supervision of a lead teacher and senior counselors.

In this half-day program, children 3 to 5 years participate in a variety of activities designed to enhance their awareness of the outdoors and increase social connections with their fellow campers. In an outdoor environment supported by early childhood education classroom access, children will learn more about the natural world by participating in a variety of activities that are on land and also water related. Campers will bring with them each day a swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, snack and water bottle.  The teacher to student ratio is 1 teacher per 12 campers aided by a junior counsler. Our staff interact with students and will help build appropriate development skills.
