Expedition Camps

The Camp for Adventure Seekers

The Expedition Camp programs are NSCD’s answer for people looking for adventure, challenge and freedom to explore and try new things. Whether it be by land or by water, the Expedition Camp offers something for everyone. The ultimate goal of these two-week sessions is not to see how far one travels, but rather to increase the camper’s knowledge and self-esteem, to create memories and to create a desire to seek out nature.

Mariners Program

Campers ages 10-13 enrolled in the Mariner Programs will spend their two weeks learning how to navigate and operate a boat. Campers will learn to sail, canoe, kayak and paddleboard while learning about boating safety. With a low camper-to-staff ratio, campers learn skills which will lead them to a positive, safe boating experience.

Campers do no need any equipment for this program. Campers in the Mariner Program will need to bring a lunch, drink, snack, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen and shoes that can be worn in the water.

Campers should report to North Shore Country Day campus each day. Then camp group will travel to Lloyd Beach in Winnetka for a day of programming and return back to campus for end of day closing activities that may include swimming and other team building tasks.

Trailblazers Program

The Trailblazers program is for campers ages 10- 13 years looking for adventure, challenges and the freedom to explore new things.  As a program of the Expedition Camps Trailblazers provides an opportunity for campers to explore the “great outdoors” that is within driving distance of their homes.

During the two-week session, Trailblazer campers will hike, learn orienteering, practice rock climbing, learn to camp and have learn to sail, kayak and canoe.  Each day offers a balance of land and water activities with the focus on building skills and friendships.  The Expedition Camps supply all the gear; campers bring the desire to have fun! Expedition Camp Guides are experienced staff whose focus is on ensuring campers work together and learn new skills.  Each staff member has a love of nature, and a desire to share that passion with the campers.

Expedition Guides follow a program that highlights the variety of land and water activities while staying in the local area.  Staff undergoes extensive training on safety procedures and work with seasoned educators and outdoors instructors each day.
